Individuals often face difficulty in paying attention, and when they are assigned a task, they consider it challenging. As a result, they give up instead of making some real efforts.

For better performance, they need to concentrate on their work and keep trying until they complete their tasks. Also, students need to maintain their focus on studies so that they could set the foundation of a better future for themselves.

What are the Reasons Behind Focus Problems?

Irregularities in Diet and Sleep are the significant reasons behind concentration and focus issues. To some extent, technology has also contributed to aggravate focus problems.

In our surroundings, we hear so many noises, for example, social media notifications, alarm bells, SMS notification, and call alerts. All these elements cause distraction, and once we lose concentration, it becomes harder to get back the momentum again.

One may say that technology has disrupted the focus, but the smart use of technology may help individuals to maintain focus. 

Following are the effective strategies to overcome the focus problems and improve memory.

Perform Regular Brain Exercise 

Different games for brain exercises such as intelligence games and puzzles serve as the concentration enhancement tool for individuals struggling to pay attention. 

Perform Yoga Exercises

You can derive mental health benefits from Yoga exercise. Yoga keeps mind relaxed and stress-free. In the morning time, sit in a peaceful environment, preferably in the fresh air, close your eyes, inhale and exhale slightly faster and keep your mind stress-free.

Continue this process for at least 10-15 minutes; you will feel better, both mentally and physically. Yoga exercises are famous for improving concentration in daily-routine work.

Participate in Physical Activities 

Physical activity refreshes the mind. The students or professionals who struggle with their attention span often feel better if they get a break for some time and participate in physical activities.

The body is connected to the brain; a healthy physique fosters better cognitive skills. Playing some sports revitalizes energy and enables you to stay focused while studying and performing other activities. 

Dividing the Task into Sub-tasks

Sometimes students and professionals get confused when they come across lengthy tasks. Breaking up the task into sub-tasks is the best way to deal with lengthy work. Set small milestones and try to build your focus on each of them. 

Take Attention Breaks

If you are a teacher, familiarize your students with the real meaning of “paying attention.” Teachers and parents can engage students by conducting practice attention sessions for them.

For 15 minutes, instruct children to focus on the task that you are going to assign them. Mark, whether they were attentive or not. In this way, students will understand the importance of maintaining focus, and in the future, they may develop their concentration span more due to these small exercises. 

Keep Repeating and Space Out

If you are struggling to maintain focus while studying, don’t worry! Try repeating the content in the short intervals, when you do so, and you would feel that you are slightly getting your focus back.

As a student, when you deal with any complex information, for example, the details of the new assignment, you can space out period of study. Spacing out information is useful; learn and memorize the portion of content in one hour then every few hours and later daily.

This is the process of improving focus gradually. Give yourself some time, and do not rush the things. Taking small steps in short intervals lead to improvement. 

Self-Belief

Always believe in your abilities, if for some time you struggle to keep the focus on a particular thing, develop a belief that it is temporary. Do not get stressed for losing focus because stress further deviates the attention. Your self-belief will help you regain focus.

The individuals who are of the view that they cannot control their memory function, they are less likely to make efforts for improving their memory and focus. 

Foods Helpful in Improving Focus and Memory 

Healthy food is of fundamental importance in helping individuals to stay focused on their studies, job, business and daily household activities. 

Blueberries: Studies have indicated that blueberries enhance memory and concentration for almost five hours as they contain antioxidants that maintain the flow of oxygen and blood.

Green Tea: Green tea helps individuals in maintaining their focus because it has caffeine, which enhances alertness.

Water: Drinking enough water helps improving focus. Water provides the brain with electrical energy, which sharpens our memory. Water enables individuals to stay more focused, and they become more creative and develop clarity in their approach.

Leafy green Vegetables: Antioxidants and carotenoids boost the capabilities of our brain, and leafy green vegetables are full of these ingredients.

Similarly, Leafy green leaves are enriched with Vitamin-B, which is much helpful for improving focus and keeps our brain fresh and healthy. They also have folic acid that provides you with mental clarity. 

Fatty Fish: Fatty fish is the source of Omega-3 Fatty acids, which improve memory and enhance mental capabilities. Deficiency of Omega-3 may result in sick mind, mood changes, fatigue and stress. 

Nuts: Nuts provide long-term mental health benefits. Antioxidants and Vitamin E are found in Nuts that help to overcome cognitive decline. Similarly, they contain amino-acids that serve as the focus-booster for you (http://www.webmd.com/add-adhd/slideshow-brain-foods-that-help-you-concentrate). 

Conclusion 

Finally, Focus and memory problems are common in the modern world. Those who are facing this issue, they do not need to worry. Sometimes, sleeping and nutritional disorders cause attention-deficiency. If this is the case, analyze your routine.

Try your best to sleep for at least 6 hours; Young students should sleep for at least 8-9 hours. Take a healthy diet such as blueberries, leafy green vegetables, ensure adequate intake of water because it keeps you fresh and revitalizes your energy. 

Also, play intelligence games and puzzles to enhance brain activities. If you are a student, and facing trouble in maintaining focus, divide your tasks into subtask so that you could focus on small milestones individually.

Physical health is closely related to our cognitive skills. Healthy physique carries a healthy brain. So, think about your fitness, perform regular exercise.

Especially adolescents need to spend at least 30-45 minutes on performing physical activity such as jumping, running in patches, playing sports like football.
