How To End An Essay?

A well-written essay keeps the reader engaged till the end. A conclusion is a recap of all the content you have used in your writing. Ideally, the ending part of your essay should reiterate the theme or central message of the text. Through a strong conclusion, you can make an impression on the readers. The last paragraph should establish a connection between the introduction and the body parts of your essay. It needs to give an impression of completeness.

A meaningful conclusion stays in the minds of readers. In schools and colleges, teachers evaluate your concluding portion of the text. A conclusion demonstrates your overall understanding of the subject under discussion.

Link with the first paragraph

The introductory part gives an overview that what you are going to discuss in the paper. It defines the topic and the subtopics. Also, you elaborate on subtopics or themes in your body paragraphs. In a coherent essay, all the paragraphs develop a connection with one another. Before concluding, you discussthe main theme in detail with relevant examples. In the last part, you do not discuss the new idea, instead, you provide a summary of the main theme. In other words, you remind readers of the main argument. By reading the final passage, your audience should easily recall what was the main topic . Stay on the topic, and make sure the concluding part covers all the main points of the essay concisely.

You need to construct the concluding part. You must analyze the essay and the topic before crafting the concluding part. You aim to engage the audience. For this purpose, consider all the relevant details and write them down. Through an effective ending, you can convince your audience. Additionally, you can leave a question for the reader.

What Should be the tone of a Concluding Passage

The tone of your text plays a vital role in engaging the audience. Make sure your tone is formal throughout the essay. Be logical and present all the relevant facts and figures. Include compound sentences with parallel structure; these sentences can create balance in the text. Also, these sentences sound appropriate to finalize a complex topic/discussion. Alternatively, you can end your essay with a quotation. If you use a quotation, do not forget to cite it. A quotation may add substance to your text.

Conclusion is Not just A Summary

You do not have to summarize the whole paper in your ending passage. Redefine one of the key terms of your discussion. For example, in an essay on Global Warming, you can reiterate one of the major harmful effects that you discussed in the body paragraph. Subsequently, you can briefly discuss the steps taken to mitigate those effects, what will be their impact in the future. It is safe to say that conclusion is a brief analysis of your paper. Discuss the implications of your discussion.

Focus on Conclusion Before starting the Paper

The conclusion is an integral part of your paper. When you start your essay, think about how you would organize your arguments in the paper. Research the topic, gather information, and organize all the details. All your arguments and ideas need to revolve around the main theme of the topic. When you reach the concluding part, organize your thoughts once again. Ask yourself: what do I want to say, what is the purpose of my essay? Ifyou have maintained your focus throughout the writing process, you can effectively wrap up your thoughts.

Proofread Your Essay Before Writing a Conclusion

It’s a good idea to go through the introductory part and the body paragraphs before you write a conclusion. You would not want to miss any important point. Pay special attention to your thesis statement. A thesis statement is your main argument, and you need to reiterate it in the essay’s last passage. Remember, a conclusion is not just the rephrasing of your thesis statement.

You need to convey the importance of your main argument. If the introductory passage makes sense and is coherent, then you can effectively write the concluding part of your essay. For example, if your essay is on “Global Warming,” you need to define what global warming is in your first passage. The thesis statement can be about the effects of greenhouses on this world. A thesis statement is the last sentence of the introduction part of your essay.

In the body paragraphs, you can present the historical context of Global warming. You would also present statistical figures that how most countries are suffering due to this issue.

Do not Prolong Your Concluding Part

Be specific and do not provide unnecessary details in the concluding part. For example, if your essay is of 500-word, one paragraph is enough to write an effective conclusion. Generally, one paragraph comprises five sentences.

Leave a thought for the Reader

Thought-provoking essays always engage readers. An essay on Global warming can present a concrete thought for readers in the ending part. For example, If the world fails to control greenhouse emissions, what would be the impact on future generations’ health? This statement conveys the significance of countering harmful global warming effects.  Furthermore, the sentence gives the impression that every individual of the world is associated with the problem.

Final word

In the last part of your essay, you wrap up your main argument. The conclusion is the reiteration of your thesis statement that you have presented in the introductory part. You do not present a new idea in the last part, instead, it is a recap of your main argument. A good conclusion demonstrates your understanding of the topic.
