How to Cancel an Interview?

Worrying about how to cancel your upcoming interview because you know that you won’t be able to make it?

First of all, relax! It’s no big deal.

Life is unpredictable and nothing happens in life with a warning or a notice so it’s quite natural that sometimes things don’t go right and will demotivate you for your interview.

Sometimes it may happen that you will find yourself in a situation where you can’t get out on time and go for your interview or maybe you will realize that the company or a position you have applied for isn’t suitable for you anymore.

At such times, you would want to cancel or reschedule your interview but yet you don’t know how and you are feeling awkward about it so no need to stress over it because here we will be helping you with the ways of how to cancel your interview on good terms with the company.

Why cancel your interview?

Cancelling your interview would not sound so convincing and professional to you but sometimes there are situations in life that you cant avoid and where you don’t have another choice but to cancel your interview.

Sometimes you will realize that the job is no longer perfect for you and you are confident that you don’t want the job so, at that time instead of wasting the interviewer’s time, you must tell them in advance that you ain’t going to attend the interview and allow the other candidate to fill up the slot you are giving upon.

Here are some of the valid reasons that can make you cancel your interview:

  1. Something urgent has come up on the day of your interview.
  2. You don’t feel well enough to go and attend the interview.
  3. You have been offered a better position in another company.
  4. Any family emergency came up.
  5. You have discovered that the job position isn’t suitable for you.

Although canceling your interview isn’t always an option, sometimes you can consider asking for rescheduling the interview as the cancellation is not professional enough and you might not want to lose a chance and regret it later.

How to cancel your interview?

As mentionsed before, there could be numerous reasons for you to cancel your interview. Life happens, and people change their minds sometimes so it’s Ok if you also have changed your mind and you don’t think that you want the job anymore.

Following are some of the instructuions that you need to follow while writing your cancellation message:

  • Firstly, whatever are the circumstances, always make certain that you inform your interviewer on time that you are not going to attend the interview. Don’t wait for the last moment and let him know about your cancelation as soon as possible.
  • Secondly, if you are facing some issues currently but still interested in the job position then you can try requesting for rescheduling the interview with your interviewer, and don’t forget to apologize for the inconvenience you caused.
  • Also, you don’t need to explain your circumstances to the interviewer if you don’t feel comfortable enough to do that.
  • While canceling or rescheduling always try to be as polite and professional as you can be, also apologize, and thank the interviewer for his time.
  • Last but not the least, make sure that the cancelation message is as brief as possible and contains all the interview details like the date, time, and job title for the interview you are canceling.

Try not to mess it up because you might now want to lose the chance of applying to any position at the same company sometime in the future.

How to reschedule your interview?

When you are still interested in the job position you have applied for and looking forward to attending your interview someday later, then you can try requesting your interviewer to reschedule your interview if possible.

You can mail or call your interviewer or reach out to him through any of the media you were communicating before and let him aware of your circumstances and that you want to reschedule your interview.

Reschedule only if the reason for it is valid and urgent. Don’t go for rescheduling just for fun or if your feel lazy enough to go for the interview because you won’t hold a good impression of yourself on the interviewer.
