How to Avoid Employment Scams in Canada?

You are here: Home / Blog / How to Avoid Employment Scams in Canada?

March 16, 2020 //  by Amit Kumar

If you have a dream job that you got the offer from in Canada, the chances are that it may be a scam! Many people have a desire to live and work in Canada. This is because they can get various job offers here because of the enormous opportunities one gets.

However, the foreigners seek these jobs and do not look into the details resulting in facing employment scams.

This article will guide you on the way to avoid employment scams in Canada. The foreign nationals should read this and follow carefully once they get the job offer in Canada.

Table of Contents

  • 1. A Compensation That Looks Pseudo
  • 2. Paying the Fee-Only after the Work Authorization Had Been Obtained
  • 3. Knowing the Contact Information of the Employer
  • 4. Low Language Quality
  • 5. An Unusual Offer Letter

1. A Compensation That Looks Pseudo

The benefits and salaries one gets should always match the nature of the job. If they don’t match, this is an alarming situation for the foreign nationals as they may be a victim of a scam.

One should always remove all the shadows of doubt about the salaries the Canadian government offers on the job Bank site. If one suspects that the wage is too high, it means that the job offered is a scam.

The other way to recognize either the employment is scam or not is the merits one gets after getting hired. If one receives the benefits of holiday trips or free accommodation, this shows that the job is fraudulent.

2. Paying the Fee-Only after the Work Authorization Had Been Obtained

The companies of Canada need to have an interview with the employee beforehand. Also, the company won’t process the application themselves where they have to deal with the strict Canadian immigration bureaucracy. This is not possible as the foreign national needs to be present in the application process of work authorization.

Furthermore, fake companies or fraudulent job offers will always take the cost of getting the work permit higher than the usual. Make sure you know the costs of getting the work permit in Canada.

3. Knowing the Contact Information of the Employer

If the foreign nationals get a job offer, the mandatory thing they need to look into is the employer information. If it is missing or incorrect, it is an apparent fraudulent job offer from a fake company.

One should always check for the numbers and emails provided. If any doubt, it is an indication of a scam.

4. Low Language Quality

Canadian companies who hire employees will always have excellent English language skills. If one finds errors in the offer letter in any way, it is a scam for sure.

Either it is punctuation or grammatical mistake, it is a fraudulent offer.

5. An Unusual Offer Letter

The offer letter reveals a lot. One should look for the authenticity of the letter that includes formatting, images, or graphics. Also, if the font and size of the text appear unconventional, it is an authentic offer letter.

The quality of the paper, the language used plus the formatting matters a lot to identify the offer letter as a scam or not.

The fraudulent companies have many ways to deceive foreign nationals. But if the person is cautious enough, he or she will catch the mistakes quickly. These hints are enough to know that either a job offer is fraudulent or not.
