How much Gap Acceptable for Study in Australia?

You are here: Home / Blog / How much Gap Acceptable for Study in Australia?

June 8, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

Students seeking options to study abroad, flock to Australia. It is one of the top three countries to have students from all over the world pursuing various courses. The nation’s education system offers international training standards which his globally accepted.

Aspirants getting an opportunity to study in Australia consider it as one of the best periods in their lives. They benefit from studying in Australia in different ways. From getting to stay in a beautiful country to carve a successful career path, there are several remunerations of studying here.

If one does wish to study in this dream destination, then there are certain things that need to be taken care of. Like other countries, Australia too has its own set of rules and regulations for students who aspire to study here. One such important criterion is the gap between the two courses.

Why Do Students Take a Gap in Studies?

Most students take a year’s gap after they have completed their undergraduate studies. There are several reasons that may compel them to take a gap – financial problems, work opportunities, reluctance to study immediately, medical issues, or other personal problems. Whether the reason to pursue studies immediately is intentional or unintentional, it could hinder your chances of getting a study visa to Australia.

Exactly How Much Gap Between Studies is Permissible in Australia?

Australian colleges and universities liberally accept students that have taken a year’s gap from their education. Yet, they expect an explanation for the gap that an individual has taken.

  • Anyone who has been away from studies for more than a year should be able to justify their absence. There are many students that take more than a year’s gap from after they have completed their undergraduate studies. Without proper proof and explanation about the extended gap, they will be denied admission.
  • Aspirants that justify their absence from studies with work experience have more chances of clearing their admission compared to those that have different reasons other than this.
  • Those with health issues are also considered by educational institutes. However, they should have proper medical records to prove their condition.

Never resort to forgery while clearing your admission in Australia else you may have to face a lifetime ban on travelling to this stunning country. Doing this will also risk your admission to universities or colleges in other countries.

So, if you are applying for admission in one of the Australian colleges and have more than a year’s gap in your studies ensure you have a proper explanation for it. Support your claim with authentic documents to get quick approval from the college.

Remember the university reserves the rights to grant you admission in their academy/institute. So, if you plan to apply in an Australian college, then ensure that the study gap is not more than one year.  If there is a gap then keep your justification ready so the admission process is smooth and unhindered.
