How International Students Can Improve their Metabolism While Living Abroad?

You are here: Home / Blog / How International Students Can Improve their Metabolism While Living Abroad?

October 18, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

Your metabolism rate is defined by the rate at which chemical reactions take place in your body. You burn more calories when you have a higher metabolism rate, and this helps you stay healthier. For international students, staying fit is essential because poor health can cause several problems like chronic health issues and poor concentration in the studies.

This is why you must take care of your health throughout your stay abroad. One of the ways to do this is to ensure that you have a high metabolism rate. Improved metabolism will help you fight obesity and will also keep you active and energetic throughout the day since your body has more energy to expend.

Here are a few ways in which you can improve your metabolism while living abroad:

Table of Contents

  • Eat Regularly and Watch What You Eat
  • Drink Lots of Water
  • Exercise Every Day
  • Get Enough B Vitamins
  • Don’t Disrupt Your Sleeping Schedule

Eat Regularly and Watch What You Eat

Your meals on time and avoid skipping meals. By skipping meals and later having a large lunch, you end up gaining weight because your body is more likely to store food for future instances when you skip meals. As a result, it will breakdown smaller amounts of food for energy, and you will feel less active after the meal.

Meals provide your body with the assurance that it does not have to store any food in the form of fat cells. This way, you will be able to improve your metabolism and your overall health.

Drink Lots of Water

Yourself hydrated is very important. The chemical reactions which take place in your body require water. To make sure that your body functions properly, you must provide enough water to your body. It is popularly said that you should drink at least eight glasses of water a day to make sure that your body stays hydrated and healthy.

Your body functions depend on an adequate supply of water. Since you may lose a lot of water during the metabolic processes, by replenishing your body with more water, you stay healthy and also aid the metabolic processes taking place in the body.

Exercise Every Day

You exercise every day, you can expend a considerable amount of energy and can build muscle mass in your body. This is known to speed up your metabolism and to help you burn fat quickly.

It is important to exercise regularly to improve your metabolism. Many people who give up exercise after achieving a certain body shape or weight goal may notice a sudden weight gain if they return to their old habits. You can use the transtheoretical model of change as a guide to staying on track with your exercise goals.

Get Enough B Vitamins

Vitamin B is known to play an important role in the metabolism of the body. Identify foods rich in B vitamins and include them in your regular diet. Most of these foods will have added benefits in the form of antioxidants and other nutrients as well.

Don’t Disrupt Your Sleeping Schedule

Sleeping is essential for the body. It is the time when your body tries to restore itself. This means that while you sleep, your body is working hard, and several chemical reactions are taking place in your body.

This is also known as resting metabolism. By making sure you sleep long enough, you give your body the ability to refresh and rejuvenate and at the same time, you burn fat as well. By maintaining a fixed sleeping schedule, you help your body enter into deep sleep more comfortably.

While you are studying abroad, you may feel like you are losing track of the food you eat, the exercise regime you follow, or even the timings at which you sleep. But all of these will eventually take a toll on your health, so make sure you are mindful of these factors.

The quality of life you lead abroad will greatly depend on your attentiveness to your body and health. Avoid fast food, which may be easily available around the streets. If you have the option to cook, then it is best to cook your own food. Include fresh fruits in your diet and also add probiotics and nuts and seeds, which help improve your immune system.
