Harvard University Won’t Allow International Students on Campus Due to COVID 19

Harvard University announced on Tuesday that it would not allow international first-year students on campus this fall.

The announcement comes because, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Harvard chose to continue the fall semester entirely online. Federal rules prevent international students from enrolling in online-only programs.

The policy doesn’t apply to admit to foreign scholars who require F-1 sponsorship newly. It only allows current international students to remain in the United States while completing their courses online.

Harvard said earlier this month it would work to bring all first-year students to campus this fall to help support the transition to college life even as it announced that in the upcoming academic year, all undergraduate and graduate courses would be taught online.

As schools shifted unexpectedly online this past spring, an exception allowed international students to stay in the US even though their programs became all virtual.

Two options are now being offered to international First Year students: take classes remotely or defer enrollment. The university is extending its deadline for a delay until July 31 and said it would ensure all first-year international student housing “when we can safely welcome you back to campus.”

As the university will continue its classes online, here, is a list of the free online courses offered by Harvard University:
