Good Interview Questions to Ask

You are here: Home / Interview Tips / Good Interview Questions to Ask

April 21, 2020 //  by Amit Kumar

A successful interview isn’t about asking questions or having the right answers. It is about asking the right questions. As an interviewee, it is essential to know that interviews are for you to prove your credibility or eligibility.

It is equally an opportunity to find out whether the company suits you based on the questions you ask the interviewer.

Most times, at the end of an interview, the interviewer allows the candidate to ask questions. Now, as an interviewee, you do not want to say you have no query to ask. No problems would imply that you did not prepare for the interview.

It also shows how weak and lazy you were to search for necessary information about the company. Asking questions means that you are well-prepared and enthusiastic about the job.

Sincerely, it is not about whether you are suitable for the company; it is also about whether the company is right for you. It is an end-to-end situation. Asking the appropriate questions, let you conclude whether it is a place where you will grow, thrive, and possibly make a difference.

I suggest you prepare nothing less than five right questions for your potential recruiter. There are lots of relevant questions to ask during an interview.

Here are some excellent questions that you can consider asking for your next meeting.

Table of Contents

  • 1. How Could I Impress You Within My First Ninety Days?
  • 2. What Possible Challenges Could Face Someone in This Position?
  • 3. Can You Please Tell Me about the Daily Responsibilities of the Role?
  • 4. Are There Opportunities for Growth Within the Role Concerning Pieces of Training and Related Programs?
  • 5. What Does Success Look like in This Organization?
  • 6. Can You Please Tell Me about My Other Team Members?
  • 7. Where Do You Envisage This Company in the Nearest Future?
  • 8. Why Did the Former Employee Leave This Position?

1. How Could I Impress You Within My First Ninety Days?

want you to put yourself in the position of an interviewer. Assuming an interviewee asks you this question, what would you think about such a person? It is effortless. It just clearly shows how eager, positive-minded, and enthusiastic such a person is.

This question shows your potential employer that you are prepared to make an instant positive contribution to the development of the organization.

Listen carefully to the recruiter as they respond to question. Being attentive will tell you what aspects of the job you are supposed to focus on during the early days of the situation.

2. What Possible Challenges Could Face Someone in This Position?

It is essential to know that no role is perfect, which makes it an excellent question to ask. There are two identifiable benefits of asking this question. It demonstrates to your recruiter that you are ready to tackle challenges.

It helps to uncover the possible challenges that you might encounter as an occupier of that position.

Also, when you ask this question, you are asking them to describe the type of employee they are searching for briefly. However, at the same time, you are telling them that you are equal to the task.

3. Can You Please Tell Me about the Daily Responsibilities of the Role?

It is undoubtedly an excellent question to ask during an interview. Asking this question enables you to have a picture of the job description. It focuses on the nitty-gritty of the day-to-day activities of the person occupying the position.

The response you get from the interviewer will give you an idea about the experience and skills required to accomplish your everyday tasks.

4. Are There Opportunities for Growth Within the Role Concerning Pieces of Training and Related Programs?

Workshops and related programs are strategically organized by companies to expand the knowledge of their employees towards ensuring increased productivity. Therefore, asking this question shows that you are a career-oriented individual.

It shows that you are willing to develop and expand your knowledge within the organization. Also, asking this question helps you know whether a long-term career with the organization would be beneficial to you.

Besides, it gives you an idea of whether you would need to move on for a better opportunity in the nearest future.

5. What Does Success Look like in This Organization?

Success means different things to different people. For an employer, success can be an increase in total sales. While to an employee, a promotion at work is a success. By asking this question, you are indirectly inquiring about the treatment of employees and the opportunities that are available for development.

6. Can You Please Tell Me about My Other Team Members?

Some jobs require you to work with a group of people to achieve specific tasks. Asking this question will help you to understand the structure of the company, who you report to, and who says to you. Team members are those people you work closely with most of the time. So, it is a good move for you to ask about them.

The recruiter’s response allows you to highlight relevant experiences that you have with similar teams.

7. Where Do You Envisage This Company in the Nearest Future?

The company’s vision is the long-term goals of that company. You want to have an insight into the company’s plans. It tells you about the company’s ‘yesterday,’ ‘now,’ and ‘tomorrow.’

When an organization sets goals, they look for individuals who can make those goals become a reality. These goals imply that as an employee, you are part of such a vision. You have to play a role in the actualization of such dreams.

8. Why Did the Former Employee Leave This Position?

This query is another relevant in an interview. For some reason, the position is vacant. But you need to know why. Asking this question makes you understand whether the person was okay with the job.

Which would imply that the organization encourages career development- or it may uncover some cultural issues within the organization? I have seen companies that sack employees due to a lack of punctuality. So, the recruiter may review some company policies to you if you care to ask.

In conclusion, while it is good to engage your interviewer in a conversation based on the questions you ask. It is essential for you not to ask irrelevant questions. This would be a test of your level of preparedness, willingness to learn, and intellectualism.

Additionally, always try to know a little about the organization. You will always find relevant information on most companies’ official websites and social media handles.
