Express Entry Draw: Lowest CRS for CEC Candidates Since 2017

Canada’s Express Entry system administers applicant profiles for three of Canada’s main economic-level immigration systems — the Federal Skilled Worker Level, the Federal Skilled Trades Class and the Canadian Experience Class.

Candidates are classified based on a score given under the Detailed Ranking System ( CRS) of Express Entry, which takes into account factors such as age, employment, professional work experience and English or French language skills.

Now, Canada has issued 3,559 invitations to CEC candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence on June 11.

The 437 cut-off score is a three-point decrease from the previous CEC draw on May 28, which had a minimum score of 440 and was the lowest CRS requirement of 2020. That draw was also the most massive CEC-specific Express Entry draw since May 1, and the second-largest since mid-March Canada introduced specific coronavirus measures.

Today’s draw was the second round invitation for Canadian permanent residence to issue Invitations to Apply (ITAs) this week. Another 341 ITAs were released yesterday, June 10 to Express Entry candidates nominated by the Provincial Nominee System (PNP). For those candidates, the minimum CRS score was 743.

Express Entry draw cut-offs continue to drop as Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invites more CEC-specific candidates to run. The time between drawings is an essential factor which can affect the cut-off score of the CRS. In the Express Entry pool, shorter intervals between drawings mean fewer candidates have time to enter a profile.

Today’s draw continued a pattern that has seen the decrease in the cut-off CRS score in each of the last seven CEC drawings held since March 4, 2020, the previous all-program draw. A set number of the highest-ranking applicants earn an ITA through daily pool draws, and IRCC usually aims to process permanent residence applications within six months.

In this draw, IRCC applied its tie-break rule and the date and time used were May 25 2020, at 00:31:43 UTC. This means that in this Invitation Round, all CEC candidates with a CRS score of at least 437 who submitted their profile before this date and time received an ITA.

Today’s draw brings to 46,000 the cumulative ITAs released in 2020. Still ahead of last year and year before the number of ITAs issued at this time.

Although significant changes have been made to Canada’s immigration policies and procedures since March 18 due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), the Express Entry system has remained operational, and candidates can still submit a profile.

Over the past two months, IRCC has held a total of 13 Canadian Experience Class, and Provincial Nominee Draws. Both categories of applicants are more likely to already be in Canada than those arriving through other Express entry-linked programs, meaning that the current travel restrictions will not affect them.
