Express Entry: Canada Invites 385 PNP Candidates to Apply for Permanent Residence

Canada has issued a new Express Entry draw, accepting 385 invitations of applicants to Apply (ITAs) for the Provincial Nominee Programme. The draw on May 27 featured a minimum 757 score on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Applicants for the Provincial Candidate Plan (PNP) in the Express Entry pool receive an additional 600 points on top of their original score for human resources.

That is why, for this draw, the minimum requirement for the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 757. Without the additional points from the provincial election, the invited candidates would have had a ranking of 157 in human resources.

This is the sixth PNP only draw from the Federal Express Entry program since individual steps on coronavirus took effect on March 18. Canada alternated between conducting Express Entry draws targeting applicants for the PNP and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Usually, drawings targeting CEC candidates have a much lower limit on CRS. The last CEC-only draw invited candidates with a CRS score of at least 447, the lowest minimum since January 2019 for these candidates. In this draw, a tie-break rule had been applied. In this round, all candidates with a CRS score of at least 757 who submitted their profile by 10:19:01 UTC before April 27, 2020, received an ITA.

The dates for drawings also became more unpredictable. Earlier this year, all-program draws covering applicants from the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the CEC, occurred every two weeks. Now that targeted draws are held by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), they can happen days or hours apart.

Immigration targets so far are on course to exceed the levels of last year. But with travel restrictions in effect, this year there were still more ITAs released than in 2019 at the same time. A total of 38,585 Express Entry candidates were invited to apply for permanent residence in 2020 as of today May 27.

Canadian immigration is federally regulated. Express Entry is the government’s immigration application management system for three economic-level programs: Federal Skilled Employees, Federal Skilled Trades, and Canadian Experience Level.

The highest-ranking candidates are then invited through daily Express Entry draws to apply for permanent residence.

Express Entry is an immigration scheme introduced on January 1, 2015, by the Canadian Immigration Authorities (IRCC) that handles skilled worker applications under Federal Economic Programmes. This includes the Federal Skilled Workers Program, the Canada Experience Level Federal Skilled Trades Program and portions of the Provincial Nomination Systems.
