Excludes the USA, EU Marks 15 Countries as ‘Safe’ for Internationals

After days of discussions and disagreements, the Member States of the European Union has finally approved a list of 15 countries considered safe due to their epidemiological situation related to the Coronavirus.

As per a press release by one Member State of the European Union, EU leaders debated a draft list of 54 nations. The EU later narrowed the list down to fifteen countries, and it turned out the same was final.

The “secure list” should be checked every two weeks and modified according to the latest developments of COVID-19 in each of the countries. According to the Council of the EU, citizens of the Vatican, San Marino, Andorra and Monaco are to be considered EU citizens for this recommendation.

Residents of certain countries will be able to join Europe as from 1 July 2020. The countries which the EU has defined as free, and whose people may enter Europe from 1 July onwards are –

Australia
Rwanda
Canada
Serbia
Georgia
Thailand
Japan
Tunisia
Montenegro
Uruguay
Morocco
China [on condition of reciprocity by the Chinese authorities]
South Korea

Citizens of the United Kingdom, as well as members of their families, are exempted from the temporary ban on travel and will be handled in the same way as citizens of the European Union before the conclusion of the Brexit implementation period on 31 December 2020.

EU countries have disagreed on the parameters to be used for this decision, with some maintaining that data on COVID concentrations are not accurate.
