You are here: Home / Blog / Chicago University Supports International Students by Providing $35 Million

July 24, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

It is a rare instance in the US to be receiving financial aid for international students. Mostly the students have to manage the cost of study in the US on their own effort is it a private loan or sponsors. Well, here is really good news for the International students seeking their education in the US under the University of Chicago. An anonymous donor has gifted the University of Chicago with $35 million as financial aid for International Students.

The donor had previously donated $10 million to the University for the undergraduate programs to the foreign students in the year 2017, and now recently he made an addition of $25 million which makes the total sum to be $35 million to be channeled towards the same purpose.

The University of Chicago is providing world-class education since 1890. It is a co-educational research university which is culturally rich and ethnically diverse. The University of Chicago also referred to as the Uchicago or the Maroons, offers 52 programs in major and 41 courses in minor for undergraduate college. The campus is beautifully spread in 217 acres and has a botanical garden too.

The University is the proud host of 91 Nobel Prize winners among which 6 of the winners are of current faculty. Chicago education helps individual to question conventional thinking in the chase to original ideas. The college develops various skills among students by making their interpersonal and analytical skills to be of a standard where they could easily write in the tough interdisciplinary core curriculum.

The generous gift from the kind donor is a great contribution towards the transformative educational environment for the University, which will allow more international students to receive benefits.

The gifted amount will be used by the University under the Odyssey scholarship program.  Its is a financial aid program of the university for the hard-working and meritorious students with financial needs. The odyssey scholarship program supports undergraduate education.

Application for Odyssey scholarship Program

The odyssey scholarship program provides support to the students who come from low-income families. An individual whose family income is below $90,000 can apply for the scholarship. A student can apply for need-based financial aid, and if the university accepts your application, you are eligible for odyssey scholarship under a financial aid package.

Odyssey scholars cannot borrow student loans, unlike other students of the college. The scholars instead receive a University grant funding that does not need to be paid back.

Odyssey scholarship has helped the scholars excel in their career. The odyssey has set a successful record of providing financial aid to the deserving student not only by making them flourish in the university but also helping them study abroad and developing their career by paid and meaningful internships and providing them with opportunities to research.

Thus, the $35 million of grants for international students will definitely enhance the approach to the University of Chicago for the students across the world. More addition of the international students will make the University rich in diversity, making the learning style more unique.
