Canada Anticipates an Increase in Immigration to Maximize the Country’s Economic Growth

Canada to increase immigration to boost economic recovery from the Covid 19 pandemic by welcoming more than 1.2 million immigrants between 2021 and 2023.

The country aims to add 401,000 new permanent residents this year and 411,000 in 2022, an increment of 50,000 compared to the previous targets. In the 1900s, the last time Canada attracted more than 400,000 people in one year time.

Candian Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino considers that this plan will help the country to make up for the disturbance that has been caused by COVID-19 in 2020.

Canadian Minister also stated that in part because of the uncertainty about when the borders will reopen, he would look at broadening and accelerating the pathway for immigrants already living in the country to obtain permanent residency.
