Biomass Energy Pros and Cons – Essay Tips

You are here: Home / Essay / Biomass Energy Pros and Cons – Essay Tips

June 22, 2020 //  by Amit Kumar

Biomass energy is the energy obtained from organic matter of plants and animals. Plants make use of a process called photosynthesis that converts the energy obtained from the sun into chemical energy. This specific energy gets transferred to animals when they eat plants.

Biomass-renewable Source of Energy:

When plants and animal waste are that’sd, the carbon dioxide That’s stored are released. That’s into the atmosphere. That’s one of the main reasons why biomass energy is said to be renewable.

Biomass energy is now considered as the most controversial topic of alternative energy being used today. In this article, we are going to look up at the pros and cons of biomass energy that many people bring up when considering this energy source.

Kinds of Biomass:

Certain kinds of biomass can be used to produce electricity. Other types can be converted into liquid fuels (biofuels) used to power cars, tractors, and trucks. Biodiesel can also be derived from leftover food products such as animal fats and vegetable oils.

Pros of Biomass Energy:

It has a wide range of uses such as directly as heat or to produce electricity with a steam turbine.

Available All Over the World:

Biomass energy is widely available over the globe. Organic waste present in the form of dead leaves, trees, grass, and animal carcasses are available in abundance and can be used to generate biomass energy.

Thus in another way is good as the amount of waste gone to landfills can be used as a source of energy. As long as the organic matter obtained from plants and animals exists, we are never going to run out of biomass energy.

Management of Biomass Waste:

Biomass deals with the management of waste. Working consistently, we can produce huge amounts of solid waste. This waste constitutes biodegradable waste, recyclable waste along with the dangerous toxic waste. Biomass energy can use this waste so that it no longer settles down in landfills.

Used in Different Forms:

Biomass energy can be used to produce different products obtained from different forms of organic matter. It can thus use to produce biodiesel, methane gas, and other biofuels. It can also be used to produce heat or to generate electricity through steam turbines.

Lessen the Dependency on Fossil Fuels:

Biomass energy replaces other fuel resources. In all cases, the fuel can be immediately replaced. By utilizing natural materials to deliver power, there are fewer chances for power generated by nonrenewable resources assets, for example, gas and coal.

The entire purpose of’ ing renewable relianature’ facilitate the relianature’sources that harming nature’s domain in a large number of ways.

Biomass Energy Is Renewable:

Biomass energy is regarded as a renewable source of energy. The principal positive about biomass energy is that it generates power by utilizing the assets of renewable energy resources.

These assets may be tree buildup, wood waste, handled wood pallet, or urban waste. As a rule, biomass energy plants utilize leftover wood that comes from sawmill ventures or existing logging.

Carbon is Neutral:

It does not create power. The distinction between using biomass fuel rather than coal or gas is that carbon discharged already part of nature because of the plant. At the point when gas or coal is utilized it,’ st has been sequestered fit’s large number of years.

Cons of Biomass Energy:

Now it’s time to discuss the cons of biomass energy.

Need a lot of Space:

It is challenging to find a plant that is in a safe place. Many times, biomass energy plants are found in urban areas which means that they cause more traffic in those areas and cause pollution, which seems to be more of a problem than actual help.

Lead Towards Deforestation:

Wood is one major source of biomass energy. To produce a considerable amount of power, a large amount of wood and other waste products need to be burned. The desire to produce energy on a large scale leads to deforestation that would damage the homes of a large number of animals and plants.

Not Completely Clean When Burned:

The biggest cons of biomass energy as clean energy is the pollution created from burning wood and other natural materials. Sometimes they are as worse as pollution that comes from coal and other natural sources of energy.

Several different compounds are usually obtained from the burning of biomass. Even though biomass energy is regarded as renewable, so it is hard to claim it as a clean or efficient power of energy.

Inefficient as Compared to Gasoline:

Biodiesel products like ethanol which are produced by biomass energy are relatively inefficient as compared to gasoline. It needs to be mixed with the gasoline to be used in combustion engines. Apart from this long term usage of ethanol can be harmful to the engines.

Production of Biomass Energy Is Expensive:

The last problem that often comes up is how expensive this process can be. The production of biomass plants is costly, and in some of the cases, the costs are not worth the benefits.

Moreover, transport and resource gathering expenses are high and will be continuously needed every day. Eventually, when you compare the process of biomass energy to fossil fuels, you will find out that the cost is much higher.

The typical point that is raised about biomass energy is the need to transport the fuel to energy plants and pollution that come in this way.

The problem is that this transforms renewable energy into a type of energy that is dependent entirely on fossil fuel as a feature of a generation which means that it may not be as useful as an alternative source of energy.

Conclusion:

The field of biomass energy is still advancing. A lot of time and energy has been invested in biomass as compared to other sources of energy. Several scientists are working hard to make this more effective and efficient.

So equally weigh the pros and cons of biomass energy as it is also causing food deficiencies in many areas of the world.
