Asian Students are More Interested in Universities within the Continent

May 14, 2019 //  by Amit Kumar

When students are selecting foreign countries for study, they seem more interested to choose University which is located on the same continent instead of going to the West.

They are attracted to some advantage which are a familiar culture, an advancement in educational quality, lower tuition fees and living costs in the region.

The famous overseas study choice includes countries like Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. Some other Asian study destinations have also raised up which are China, India Thailand, Kazakhstan and Israel that is located in Western Asia.

Raising Destinations for Asian Students:

Thailand grows as the most popular choice among Asian students, particularly for chinses students.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) sited the data given by the Thai government in January. The report said that after the year 2012 the numbers of Chinese students in the southeastern Asian universities have been increased by 2 times.

The rise in the number of students gives more economic stability to the universities. Now the universities can be directed to more advancing educational quality. According to the SCMP report, it will raise more job opportunities in the region.

According to research by the Asia Research Centre for Migration at Chulalongkorn University, in 2017, about 8,455 Chinese students enrolled in the Thai universities and the amount of student enrollment is double as compared to 2012. Countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia are also developing the rule to enrol more international students to their universities.

The Hindustan Times reported in March that there is an increase in the number of Indian students who are travelling to the Philippines to study the discipline of medicine.

No doubt, China has become the most attractive destination for Asian students. The Institute of International Education in the U.S has released global statistics in which it describes that China ranked third among the top 10 high-level education destinations after the U.S. and U.K. for the purpose of overseas study.

The U.S. received 1,078,822 international students, the UK received 501,045 and China 442,773 between the year of 2016 and 2017.

China is supposed to the number 1 overseas study destination in Asia according to China’s Ministry of Education. International students from almost 204 countries come to China.

Pakistan, India, Thailand, the U.S., Russia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Laos and Japan are the top 10 source countries.

China is offering numerous number of scholarships to international and domestic students. The fast development of China also attracts international students and helps to swell the number of students day by day.

By September 2018, Kazakhstan captivated 20,000 international students in Central Asia. According to an official report, the country intends to attract 50,000 over the next four years.

Countries in western Asia have language barriers, visa regulations and religious differences that is why they have a low percentage of enrollment of international students. Israel in that region only has 1.4% of foreign students. According to a report published in April, Israel will try to increase the number of students to 24000 by the year 2022.
