If there is one person who is always in the news, he is Donald Trump, the current President of The United States Of America. Since he has gained hold of the office, he has made a lot of changes in how the USA government goes about their international relationships.
Trump has been in the news for the wrong reasons several times. His fights with the North Korea dictator Kim Jong Un are known to everyone in the world. Who can forget the H-1B visa rule that his government administration implemented not so long ago?
It changed the hassle-free visa requests for people. Immigration to the USA became a very tough job.
Trump Administration’s Rule Denied by the Court
Much recently, other news made the headlines. A Federal US Judge denied the implementation of a rule that was proposed by the Trump administration. The rule that has been put on hold is the one which asked the immigrants to prove that they have health insurance or if they don’t, they have enough money to pay for one before they are given their visas.
So essentially, an immigrant who did not hold medical insurance or had enough money to have one would be denied the visa. Michael Simon, who is one of the US District Judge, has provided a preliminary junction which has stopped the rule from coming into effect on Sunday.
There are no indications about when the decision will be permanently ruled on the merits of the case.
People are Against the Rule as Well
It has been reported that seven US citizens, along with one of the non-profit organizations filed a federal lawsuit against the rule saying that if the rule is implemented, almost two-thirds of the prospective immigrants won’t be able to immigrate to the United States.
It also stated the fact that it would also adversely affect the number of immigrants who come to the USA with the help of family-sponsored visas.
Esther Sung, a senior litigator at the Justice Action Center, backed the rule from the court, saying that they are very grateful to the court for recognizing the requirement of blocking the health care ban right away.
People are logically opposed to the rule from being implemented since it would tear apart thousands of families. The rule clearly shows the aim of Trump administration to convert the USA into a merit-based system country rather than a family-based immigration country.
The white house defended the decision of Trump administration because it feels that people are taking too much advantage of the government’s generous health care programs and added that the immigrants are the people who contribute in the rising problem of uncompensated health care costs.
The government said to make the process easier; if the immigrant does not have health insurance within the first 30 days of their arrival in the US, they should at least show income proofs to show that they can support themselves for paying any or all of the medical care they might need in the future.
